Books worth reading.

A starting list for OCD, panic, phobias, health anxiety and BFRBs. Books can be a great companion to therapy, but they're not a replacement for it.

OCD
  • Getting Over OCD: A 10-Step Workbook for Taking Back Your Life

    Jonathan S. Abramowitz. A step-by-step ERP workbook.

  • Overcoming Unwanted Intrusive Thoughts

Panic, anxiety and phobias

Perfectionism
  • When Perfect Isn't Good Enough: Strategies for Coping with Perfectionism

Martin M. Antony and Richard P. Swinson. A CBT workbook on perfectionism. It isn't an OCD treatment book, but it can help when “just right” standards and fear of mistakes take over.

Hair pulling, skin picking and other BFRBs
  • The Hair-Pulling Problem: A Complete Guide to Trichotillomania

Fred Penzel. A comprehensive guide to hair pulling.

  • The Habit Change Workbook

James Claiborn and Cherry Pedrick. Strategies for breaking habits, including BFRBs.

  • Overcoming Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors

Charles S. Mansueto, Sherrie Mansfield Vavrichek and Ruth Goldfinger Golomb. A step-by-step CBT program for hair pulling and skin picking.

A note on reading. With OCD and health anxiety, reading can turn into another way of seeking reassurance. If you notice you're reading to feel certain instead of to practice, that's worth bringing up in therapy.
